Row Gauge Calculator — Rows for a Target Length

Calculate how many rows you need to knit to reach a specific length, based on your row gauge.

How We Calculate This

This calculator uses your row gauge to determine how many rows to knit for a target length.

The formula

Rows per cm = Row gauge / swatch width (cm)

Row gauge is normally quoted per 10cm (4in) swatch — the Craft Yarn Council convention — so the default swatch width is 10cm. If you measured your gauge over a different width, set it under Advanced Options and the divisor changes to match.

Total rows = Target length (cm) x Rows per cm (rounded up)
