Gauge Ratio Calculator — Stitch to Row Ratio

Calculate the ratio between your stitch and row gauge. Essential for diagonal shaping and pattern design.

How We Calculate This

This calculator divides your row gauge by your stitch gauge to find the ratio.

The formula

Gauge ratio = Row gauge / Stitch gauge

A ratio of 1.4 means you knit about 1.4 rows for every one stitch across the same distance — so each stitch is wider than it is tall. Higher ratios (e.g. garter at ~2.0) pack more rows into the same height, giving shorter, wider stitches; lower ratios (nearer 1.0) give squarer stitches.
